My whole family but love it!! Instead of using jar of dried beefiness I simply utilise 8oz. thin slices of beef lunchmeat "Budding" and information technology a lot cheaper!! Not salty at all and you don't even have to rinse!! You must attempt it and believe me, you won't be disappointed!!!!

Just like moms, minus the pepper and her beef came out of a purse. TIP: If yous find this dish too salty, soak the beef in cold water for nearly 10 minutes, and bleed. Try a piece, if its however too salty, soak in fresh h2o for 10 more minutes.

Comfort Nutrient! Once I got the roux down (it took 2 tries), it was fantastic. I added the ceyenne pepper, seasoned salt and cracked black pepper. We used the Budding Luncheon Meat. Served it on toasted tater breadstuff buns. I bet it would exist not bad on biscuts! The boys scarfed them down faster than I could serve them. Goes downward well with a BIG glass of cold MILK!

It'south funny that the recipe says that SOS stands for "Same Ole Stuff". That'southward the overnice version simply not the original. It'due south really "S*** On a Shingle" and the first word isn't "Stuff". That's what the military has been calling it since way before my time. My mom just called it "Creamed beef" just even she knew what it was really chosen. She was just too polite to utilize the real name. ;~} My mom used to brand this with browned hamburger from time to fourth dimension. At present I'grand the 1 who does all of the cooking for my married woman and two kids and I seem to be the only one who loves it. I utilize browned hamburger and a petty minced onion and just use the fat from the hamburger to cook the onion and brand the roux. Just sprinkle the flour over the cooked hamburger and onion and cook a bit. Then whisk in the milk. I add lots of blackness pepper and sometimes a splash of worcestershire sauce. It'southward good over toast but even better over buttermilk biscuits. It's basically the same recipe as sausage gravy just with beef instead. Serious comfort food for me but information technology's also seriously low brow cuisine. Add a little chopped parsley if you desire to pretend information technology's fancy. I was a chef in some pretty nice restaurants for years merely I still dear the back woods, low brow, peasant nutrient like this. Makes me want to whip up a batch right now!

If this recipe is too salty for you, just boil the chipped beef in a little water for a few minutes, then bleed off the water, which will take some the table salt away with it.
xi/11/2007
I was surprised at how easy this recipe was. At offset i was concerned that at that place was too much beef for the recipe but it turned out perfect! Information technology is rare to find a creamed chipped beef recipe that is thick - this is it! i would similar a little more flavor but i dont know what else to add together. I dear the cayenne but i feel like at that place could exist another spice that i am not thinking of. Anyhow it was not bad and i would definitely recommend this recipe but as it is!

I figured out that I have to almost double the sauce recipe. I still just use one jar of dried beef, but with more than sauce, it's not as salty. Though it is definitely something that you can make quickly for everyone to eat. Nosotros make all the fourth dimension.
04/17/2007
This recipe is G-R-Eastward-A-T!!! If yours turned out too salty, you probably used the jarred dried beefiness and should have RINSED it kickoff. We used fresh dried beef from our local locker. Even my EXTREMELY picky xiii twelvemonth quondam girl and v year old son Dear this stuff...and ask for it on a regular basis!
07/31/2002
I used as someone else had suggested deli meat(Italian beef from Cub Foods)and it was awesome...We served over hash dark-brown patties(for those that are non big staff of life eaters)...Next time I'll need to double the recipe...it was gone in one sitting.
05/23/2003
My married man loved it, my 12 twelvemonth old son declared it his "favorite meal", and nosotros all wished I'd made more. The funny thing is-after reading the reviews, I boiled the jarred dried beef a minute, so rinsed it off...then we all had to Add common salt (and pepper) to our portion...Become Figure!
02/17/2008
Fantastic, my husband loved it. Just what I was looking for. I mixed about 2/3 of the milk and the balance was cream. Also a great base to add together actress's to taste
04/15/2011
You will accept more flavour if y'all tear up the beef into big bite size pieces, saute in the butter for a flake and then add the flour and milk.
04/14/2011
add Nutmeg to taste...i e'er do that...it adds flavor and you dont even know its there
02/fifteen/2009
I accept been making Chipped Beef for years and I learned from watching my female parent. I don't utilize a written recipe but I use the dried beef in the jar. I cut the beef into pocket-size pieces and saute information technology in the butter a few minutes so that the beef flavor escapes into the butter and so I add the flour and milk. You can also add a minor amount of beef bullion granules. This recipe is even better if you brand it the day before y'all program to eat it! Not bad comfort food!

My mom always fabricated this when I was a little girl and I've made it for my family for years. I start out with parkay margarine (it has more flavor than butter). I cook that and and so stir in my beefiness. My favorite is to get it from a cafeteria but that is usually not possible and then buddig beef in the packages is the side by side best matter. I mix that with the parkay until lightly brown. I cascade the milk into my tupperware gravy maker and add together the flour and shake. I cascade this mixture over peak of the beef and butter and cook until heated and slightly thick. It is and then much easier than trying to mix the flour and butter.

Try scooping out a baked potato, mixing the white potato with the chipped beef mixture (sans cayenne pepper for me). Then fill the potato crush, put grated cheddar cheese on pinnacle and warm in oven until cheese melts.
04/fourteen/2011
This is a good recipe which I used except for the cayenne-I used blackness pepper instead. Just over the years I tweaked it. Melt the butter in the pan, then put shredded dried beef in the butter. Permit it sizzle on medium estrus for 3-4 minutes, stirring often. Information technology will develop a better flavor by doing that - and give information technology more of a chew factor. Then add the flour, stir until 'roux' develops, add the milk and (simply) pepper (no table salt necessary. simmer till thickened and bubbly. You lot can likewise throw in a small-scale tin of tuckered baby peas (or frozen) - like a half loving cup; and if you lot similar mushrooms, toss some (canned, drained) of those in besides. I personally like it over biscuits instead of toast.
04/15/2011
Just seeing this listed, brought back many memories of my mom, opening up that tiny jar of either Hormel or Armour Chipped Beefiness. A dish that she prepared several times a year. I too would rinse off the excess salt, tastes have inverse and then has the information about likewise much sodium; dorsum when I was a piddling boy, there was non that much processed food effectually and the amount of table salt that was used to cure this chipped beef wasn't much of an issue--however today, that is non the instance. A cracking, American, comfort food item and similar some of the other respondents, I was in the military and this was called by a proper name that doth not be listed here.
04/15/2011
S**T on a Shingle. Dad hates it as he had it every day in the service. Mom fabricated information technology for u.s.. Originally information technology was canned or bagged chipped meat/beefiness, milk gravy and toasted white staff of life. No curry or cayenne at all. Only salt and black pepper. And BTW, milk gravy IS made with a roux, which is just a fancy French way of telling you to cook off the butter/flour mixture to get full flavor before adding the milk. Oh and FORGET THE MERLOT! Effort a cold night beer, that will stand up upwardly to the table salt in the meat. Besides really good over egg noodles.
07/09/2012
OK - if the beef isn't swimming in the cream sauce, you've done it incorrect. If the toast isn't completely covered in sauce, you've done it wrong. If you can swallow it with your fingers, you've washed it wrong. If you only put information technology on toast, yous are missing out. Try information technology over your hash browns, or scrambled eggs, or both.
04/22/2008
This was so simple then expert. I used the Budding sliced beef and information technology was not salty at all. My married man liked it alot. I made to much so nosotros were going to have leftovers the adjacent day for lunch - Big mistake considering this does not reheat well at all, The sauce gets lumpy. Very good and uncomplicated recipe / Cheers for sharing !!
04/14/2011
To raise this dish to a college level, sweat a couple of TBSP finely chopped shallots in the butter earlier adding the flour for the roux. Make using half and half and plenty of freshly basis black pepper. Serve over toasted English muffins. I always soak my beef in some cold water before chopping and adding to the white sauce.
10/12/2008
Well, I started reading the reviews and institute that most of them were the aforementioned. This is what we used to take in the Air Force and called it SOS merely it didn't represent "Same one-time Stuff". It stood for "South*** on a Shingle" and most of us asked for it by that proper name. Pepper wasn't in the archetype recipe and if you desire to go on it archetype you cannot add any of the other "stuff" either. I accept always used the Buddig packs. If y'all want to attempt something ameliorate try using the Buddig packs of ham - substituting it for the beef. I phone call it "Sham on a Shingle" and it is the only way that I make it now.
04/16/2011
Spend a little extra and buy yourself Armour Dried Beef. It makes this a neat Chipped Beefiness Gravy. Chipped Beef gravey on toast whatever twenty-four hours of the week for this agglomeration. The cayenne pepper is a squeamish affect too. I apace run warm water over the dried beefiness to remove some of the salt. I endeavor never to add common salt equally information technology seems to break downward the essence of this delicious gravy.
02/21/2008
I grew up calculation the beef as soon every bit the white sauce was started! Maybe thats why it never tasted salty to me or anyone else who has ate it since its soaked in the "gravy" for a little while. I also add lots of shredded cheese and make the sauce cheesy. My family absolutely loves this. Cheap and like shooting fish in a barrel repast.
04/21/2011
Unlike other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly every bit written. I used the dried beef called for, not hamburger or Walmart beef. Despite the fact that the beef label only suggested, rather than specifying, rinsing the beefiness, I did not do so considering the recipe never mentioned rinsing. The issue was inedible because of the saltiness. If I try this again I will definitely rinse adjacent fourth dimension. Lisa, if the beefiness is to be rinsed, say so in the recipe. Oh, and S.O.Due south. definitely does not stand for "same former stuff."
04/14/2011
I use ii packages of Buddig sliced beef and add a dash or two of Worcestershire sauce to the cream sauce instead of cayenne.
04/14/2011
If y'all would similar more of the stale beefiness flavor, saute the stale beef with the butter to release its oils 'before' adding the flour. Makes an incredible difference and changes this 4 star into a 5 star recipe.
04/xiv/2011
This is just similar my Nanny used to brand. The only thing I did unlike is nosotros eat ours over potatoes. Merely boil the potatoes, mash them on your plate. Add some butter and salt and pepper and put the chipped beefiness over it. That is always how nosotros ate it growing upwards. Oh, and I get out the skin on my potato but the kids like it without! Cheers for this reveiw. I haven't had this in ages. Bring back great babyhood memories with my Nanny (grandma).
04/14/2011
I usually employ the packaged beef also, only I usually saute it in the butter for a few minutes then add the flour to the pan and stir until the butter is absorbed. Add the milk and stir until thickened. Information technology seems to give the white sauce a little more flavour.
01/17/2009
This is ane of my most favorite comfort foods. I made information technology for my kids this morning. 1 child loved it, the other wouldn't impact it. I used the sliced beef in the packages similar my mom did when nosotros were piffling and I added in six crumbled hard-boiled eggs. Truly comfort food at information technology'southward best. It's good over biscuits simply for truthful trashy sense of taste, best over cheap toasted, buttered white bread.
11/08/2008
Very tasty. One discussion of circumspection - don't be tempted to add salt to the white sauce considering the chipped beefiness is very salty.
04/14/2011
Mmm, we love this one now, and I grew up on it as well. Even better is creamy egg on toast, make the same white sauce but throw in chopped difficult boiled eggs instead of the chipped beef. My 4 yr former loves information technology! Or a can of peas for creamed peas on toast. Any of these options are perfect for comfort food!
08/12/2011
Ane of my favorite comfort foods for breakfast. I add about a tsp of garlic powder and onion pulverization and some white pepper! I besides get chipped dried beef from the deli! I sometimes serve this over homefries too!
03/27/2002
Followed recipe to the T and information technology was the saltiest repast I take e'er eaten. Hook me up to the water hose. Liked the consistency of the roux, but once stale beef hit it...........it was all over. I'thousand going to try it with vegetables and chicken or tuna; and perhaps hamburger.
05/11/2011
But like Mom's! Both my immature boys ate this upwardly. Quite a feat since my youngest (2) doesn't like meat.
05/04/2012
We grew upward on this being a Navy family. Of course, SOS stood for something else. :) This is wonderful condolement nutrient. It's super over home made biscuits likewise.
04/14/2011
While the recipe is excellent, I quite oft make it using very lean basis beef. Brownish the beef in a small pot, add together the flour to the beefiness, stir, then add the milk to the mixture. It will thicken quite fast and eliminates the task of making a roux. I so add a touch of wostershire sauce and some onion pulverization, garlic powder and salt/pepper to sense of taste.
xi/eleven/2009
I liked this. I added a little onion powder and a little worcestershire sauce. Served it on toasted english muffins. Very good. Cheers.
04/14/2011
One of my favorite comfort foods from my childhood. Made more special beacuse only my father and I liked it. We made information technology with Budding packaged meat when anybody else had something improve to do. When I make it now I wish I could share it with him.
03/06/2010
very proficient, but not plenty gravy for that amount of beef. i used a 4.5oz jar of sliced dried beef and doubled everything else to brand information technology perfect!
05/20/2010
This is a good starting betoken! My mom's best friend makes this all of the fourth dimension and I have fond memories of it growing up:) She adds a small chopped onion to the butter while making the roux. Also Velveeta (to your liking) cubes to the white sauce and a little sherry or white vino tops it off! She also always served this over the frozen puff pastry puffs (non the sheet). Keen served with peas! I LOVE this for dinner, such a wonderful comfort meal for me:) Thanks for sharing!
01/11/2013
My husband has been talking nigh the flossy chipped beef his mom served him when his was a child so I decided to make it for him. She is no longer with u.s.a. and so I couldn't inquire her for her recipe and I came across this one and thought I'd requite it a try. My husband loved it with the exception that he, like many others, thought it was too salty and so side by side fourth dimension I will rinse the meat. Changes I made: I added onion with the melted butter and I added the meat to the onions before the flour. I used 2 cups of milk instead of one.5 cups and I add together a sprinkle of nutmeg. My husband said information technology was perfect except for the salt.
01/07/2010
This is your bones, old fashioned recipe for SOS. And you know what? It's still easy, and information technology'south nevertheless pretty well received. My not-meat-loving kids actually like information technology, and it is sooooo fast to brand.
09/23/2010
I made this for my married man, after he had been begging for me to discover a recipe for SOS. I rinsed the dried beefiness from the jar in warm h2o, but married man said information technology was still very, very salty, and for him to complain near saltiness is rare! He said the SOS the Navy served was much ameliorate! The sauce looked expert, but next time I would employ corned beef or something else besides the jar of dried beef.
04/14/2011
Nosotros have eaten this every Easter Sunday, for the past 50 years. Here'south our family's twist. First nosotros brand a roux with butter, onions, Wondra flour & whole milk. A nice rich white sauce. The chipped beefiness is sliced & then must be soaked in warm water to go the saltiness out. The hard boiled colored easter eggs are peeled and chopped & go into the white sauce when it'south finished. Serve over toast. Some pastel color comes out from the dye on to the white of the egg & it's very eastery!
04/16/2011
I grew up eating this for breakfast, made exactly like this recipe. Sometimes I want it for supper and I will serve it over biscuits and add frozen light-green peas to the creamed beef. YUMMY!
08/06/2012
Just like my Mom used to brand, so flossy and good.
05/03/2011
Proficient, solid recipe - brought back memories of one of dad's specialties when I was a child. I institute the common salt level fine without rinsing the dried beef, but I did make a little actress on the white sauce so that may have helped. Added some cracked black pepper, served over rice - YUMMM!
04/14/2011
This also is xlent if you lot use Pork Breakfast Sausage. Fry it, drain it & crumble information technology into the sauce.
04/fourteen/2011
Almost exactly how I have made it for many years. Anyone from military families Know this term came from them and was simple just similar this recipe is. Past the style, I did make this exactly and it was good. I usually fried my chipped beefiness in the butter showtime for more flavor. Good over biscuits too. Toast is the bomb though. In my opinion.
12/05/2007
Yup, this is my grandmother's and my female parent'southward recipe before her, although, we don't employ an viii oz jar of beef. For this much sauce, a two.5 oz jar is more sufficient for united states, and helps proceed information technology less salty overall. For the poster who was wondering was additional spice could be added ... the secret is always nutmeg. A SMIDGE only, not more than that, lends a nutty spice to this dish, much similar it does to Alfredo sauce. I made this tonight and served it over toast cubes. We've likewise made this and served it over toasted stale rolls. it'southward as well quite expert over crushed breadsticks.
04/15/2011
Awesome - have made this for years and also use the Buddig brand - we like the corned beef. Add a nuance of nutmeg for an extra scrap of seasoning. And so GOOD
01/01/2011
I just made this for New Twelvemonth's Twenty-four hour period brunch. I tripled the recipe and added 1/ii teaspoon garlic powder and 1/ii teaspoon stale mustard. That is how my mom used to make it when I was a kid. It was one of the showtime entries to go! Simple and yummy. I wish I could detect stale beefiness without nitrates.
10/25/2010
My mom has been making this since I was a kid, she had learned information technology from her mom who learned how how to make it in the Army ... I needed some comfort food today and couldn't call my mom upwardly since she's on vacation so I turned here. I'chiliad so glad I found this, it was exactly how I remembered it from my babyhood. My mom always used the packets of sliced beefiness from the deli and information technology always comes out great! Thanks for sharing! This was perfect for such a dreary mean solar day and during midterms!
11/09/2007
This brings dorsum babyhood memories. I didn't intendance for creamed chipped beef as a child, simply I like it better as an developed.
03/x/2008
I remember my mom making this on occasion growing up. I did rinse the chipped beef to try and reduce some of the saltiness. I also used kitchen shears to cut down the time it takes to chop the beefiness. This was skillful but non nearly every bit good as I remembered it. Since the SODIUM is OUT OF THIS WORLD I probably won't make it again for some other 20 years! Personally, the USMC SOS recipe was much better tasting that was fabricated with ground beefiness.
08/05/2008
Delish! A quick and like shooting fish in a barrel recipe that my whole family unit enjoyed. I could not find the dried beefiness in a jar, so I used the carl budig thin sliced pastrami lunch meat. I cut it into strips and heated in a fry pan before adding it to the white sauce. Served over thick toasted slices of challah bread. And then adept, I will have to double the recipe next fourth dimension!!
01/07/2008
Recently, I institute myself craving this recipe although I hadn't eaten it since my early on babyhood. My family unit of six wasn't exactly poor simply we had to brand uncomplicated meals stretch far and then the 'chipped beef' was State-O-Frost lunchmeat, the toast was English language muffins, and seasoning was common salt and pepper. I substituted those same ingredients again and this recipe was yet FANTASTIC! Tasted exactly how I remembered! Savoring it over again tonight took me back over 30 yrs., when us four kids were madly lapping it up and fighting for seconds (and thirds)! Cheers for the yummy recipe and wonderful walk downwardly retentivity lane.
x/xx/2011
The men in the family love this simply I use 4 TB butter, 4 TB flour and 2 cups of milk and 2 pkg corned beef. I heat the 2 cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add milk all at one time to the roux so I don't have to spend forever stirring it.
09/02/2008
This is a dandy recipe. i did double information technology though and used two cups of heavy cream and 1 cup of milk. Yummmmmmmmy!!!!
x/21/2000
one of my familys favorites when I say "ok tonights gonna be a quick one...what do yous want?" : )
10/03/2000
This recipe tastes just like the commercial kind. Very tasty. Instead of beef in a jar, I used wafer sliced beef lunch meat..it worked great!
04/14/2011
I dear this repast. I add chopped hard boiled eggs and peas and chopped onion. My boyfriend loves it and I make enough and so nosotros accept leftovers.
04/14/2011
Equally my mom did, I add together 2 coursely chopped, hard-cooked eggs. I besides add some frozen peas to make a 'total meal' out of information technology, and I serve it over country buttermilk biscuits. And don't add ANY salt to this! And to those having trouble making white sauce, you lot can mix the milk & flour together first (I utilise cold milk, or half & half) in a measuring cup and add to melted butter all at once.
01/thirty/2011
DH requested I make this. I have to acknowledge I actually did not desire to but glad I did.I tasted a bite off of DH's plate, information technology isn't bad and actually piece of cake to brand. Only draw back is the sodium content. DH ate the whole thing so that was half dozen,564mg of sodium. I would accident upwards similar a airship. If you don't have a sodium trouble I would suggest trying this, you may like it.
02/14/2011
Just similar mom used to make. Except better.
ten/28/2013
Neat recipe merely my family found that 8 oz of dried beefiness to be overwhelming. I used one (1) 2.25 oz jar of Armour dried beef and ground mixed peppercorns in the next attempt. It was a success!! I also took me dorsum to my days in the Marine Corps!!
02/05/2011
excellant resturant quality This will exist my go to recipe from at present on. definatly soak ur chiiped beef if u don't want it salty
04/14/2011
This is just like my Mom's only where;s the peas and boiled eggs? Reminds me of my childhood.
03/xviii/2012
Upon a review and proffer I used lunch meat and I would have to say use the stale beef it would had been much better. The cream sauce seemed to exist missing that flavor that comes with information technology and that may had been due to using the luncheon meat instead of the dried beefiness. And so I would mayhap try this again merely I would use the dried beef and maybe a tablespoon more of butter.
02/07/2008
I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had fabricated and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the nutrient processor and chopped it all up. I made a double batch for 2 teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave first for five mins that style it doesn't scald and makes it faster to make. I too warmed the meat in the microwave for 2 mins. I besides added a compression of garlic common salt because it was too bland for my taste. While the milk was in the microwave I made the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast and then put the meat in the sauce and it was done in 10 minutes. Very piece of cake and fast and the kids ate information technology all!!!
01/16/2012
Succulent! I oasis't fabricated this in ages and it hit the spot tonight.I used 1/2 stick butter and approx i/two loving cup of flour..be sure and cook that a minute or two to get rid of the flour taste. I then added the milk, slowly stirring and last added ii pkgs of chipped beef that I sliced in 1/four inch slices. Ever a family favorite.
03/08/2008
This recipe is entirely too salty as written. I had to throw information technology away. We couldn't consume information technology. Do not utilize dried beef in a jar. Maybe package from common cold cut department would be ok.
ten/02/2011
This was proficient, I added pepper to taste.
11/14/2010
We all enjoyed this chipped beefiness for dinner (myself, my husband, my 5 year old son and iv year old daughter). I rinsed the beef, but I recollect that I must have "over" rinsed it. I rinsed every single slice while running the rest of the beef nether water in a collander. The result was that it actually ended up needing common salt, IMO. This is my own error of class. :north) the foam was keen, and adjacent time I'll be less meticulous with my rinsing. Non certain if I prefer this over Stouffers, since Stouffers is evidently easier to make, which is why it got 4 instead of five.
01/15/2008
Doubled the recipe and just used 2-4 oz. jars and it was fine. I rinsed just one jar and was just right for salt. Family unit loved it.
02/07/2012
My female parent used to make this when I was a kid for u.s.a. all the time since we didn't have very much money. It'due south my absolute favorite. information technology's simple, easy, and brings back memories. it'due south non a flavorful dish if you're looking for something fancy and awakening, merely if y'all have the same reasoning equally i do, it's just a comfort food. And to make information technology better, my mom ever put chopped hard-boiled eggs in hers. YUM! :)
11/09/2007
I have made this recipe a couple of times and each time it has been GREAT! I like to add some frozen corn to mine. It is indeed wonderful comfort food. It is incredibly cheap, quick and like shooting fish in a barrel. I would propose buying dried beefiness for this and non using the lunch meat equally someone suggested. I tried it the first time that I made it to salve coin, but was disappointed by the taste. No need to table salt a second time when using the dried beef right from the jar.
09/04/2013
I increased the sauce as some others did and this turned out perfect! I've made this before several times, but never with the cayenne and it made a wonderful difference. I as well similar to put some scramble eggs on top of mine too...simply another footling touch that makes information technology better.
02/15/2011
Yup, just like Mom'south!
01/05/2014
I grew upwardly eating this, I love it! I didn't meet it on this recipe, but I've always had sliced hard boiled eggs in mine equally well mixed in with the "gravy" and stale beef. It's excellent!!
03/09/2009
It reminded me of the frozen Stauffer's, what I grew up with. I doubled the recipe for 4 people. I used jar beef and tuckered information technology twice. Since I drained the beef it needed a little table salt. I didn't put in the cayenne pepper. I put in black pepper instead. I serve information technology on toast.
01/05/2011
then good! Comfort food on a cold mean solar day.
02/10/2013
You demand to double the recipe. The portion of roux to chipped beef is thin. It only makes enough for 2 people or cover 4 pieces of toast and the chipped beef is really salty even though I rinsed the scrap beef in hot water and permit it boil in the roux. Next time I'll double the recipe and boil the chipped beef in water before adding to the roux.
04/15/2011
I have been making chipped beef on toast for years. I commencement out with olive oil instead of butter. More than healthy. Add flour slowly to oil, lower rut and stir until it gets slightly dark-brown. Add milk and several drops of Wright's concentrated Hickory Seasoning (liquid smoke). salt & pepper to taste. In the Navy they call it (SOS- on a shingle)
01/08/2003
This is my girl'due south all-time favorite breakfast. She eats it once a week. I use the Buddig brand Corned Beefiness and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas break used leftover cubed ham instead and foam instead of milk, simply as practiced, if not meliorate.
11/02/2011

The married man could not get plenty of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beef and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave it a little heat which was nice, add more if you like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Volition be making this ane again and over again.

I tripled the sauce and used half a pd of dried beefiness chipped from the cafeteria. We eat this when we get out for breakfast. You lot tin can put it over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the about popular is toast. I liked this amend than what we get out, and everyone in the house liked it. Thanks for the recipe.

Just like the kind mom used to make. I used a package of budding beef and chopped it upward. I had to double the recipe for my family of iv though.

Nosotros are beef farmers and dried beefiness is in the freezer. This is just nearly the only way nosotros like stale beef. I was looking here for more ideas of what to make with it and plant that I had already tried them all: craven bake, creamed beef, and overnight casserole. Our favorite way of eating creamed beefiness is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I always seasoned this with a niggling bit of nutmeg and beef broth and seasoning powder, but tonight I will try the pepper.

Adept stuff, similar what mom fabricated only w/ an added kick. I employ the beef in the plastic purse, and that works fine. I like how salty this recipe is. But, I'k an admitted saltaholic. :)

This is an old stand up-by recipe that I take prepared for my family for years. I utilize ii packages the Buddig beef, double the cream sauce and add but a nuance of both onion powder and garlic pulverisation, along with salt and pepper to taste earlier I chop and add the beef and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd give this recipe five stars. A quick and easy meal!

Had a deep desire for creamed chipped beef tonight. Being but after mid-March I also had some leftover corned beef. Used it in this basic roux recipe and it is wonderful. Thanks Lisa for posting. Also my father taught me how to cook very rich and so I used i/three heavy whipping cream to two/iii+- pure water as my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier taste and texture= richer flavour.

I've been making this dish for years, I offset slicing the dried beef, them plunging information technology briefly into boiling water to remove some of the common salt, then saute it in butter, add cornstarch then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. season w/a scrap of white pepper... that'due south the authentic way to make it!
